I was so delighted to be able to share some of the developments that are taking place in the Diocese with the Synod at our last meeting.  There was such a lovely buzz in the air and real engagement in the conversation about the opportunities and challenges ahead.

There were a number of themes that emerged:

  • Thankfulness for all that God is doing in Southdown at St Barnabas and prayer for it’s further development and growth
  • The challenge of where we will be in five years time – a vision of a growing church of 4000 disciples across the deanery
  • The role and work of the DMPG (Deanery Mission and Pastoral Group) as leaders of the deanery helping to shape a shared vision and culture focusing on PRAYER / PEOPLE / PERMISSION / PRIORITIES
  • The place of church planting (of many kinds) in the future life of the deanery to help us make disciples
  • The joy of sharing visions, goals and dreams from each parish in the deanery for the year ahead

Developing a New Deanery Plan

A major part of the evening was setting out the process for us developing a new deanery plan together.  Each DMPG has been commissioned to revisit and renew their plans and we are well on our way with this.  It is so exciting to have received replies from every parish with goals and visions laid out for us to share with one another.  This will form the basis of an ongoing deanery plan in the years to come.  You can download a copy of this HERE

2017 City-wide Conference – FREELY GIVE

Following the success of the Mark Greene and Neil Hudson – Everyone a Disciple Conference last spring, the DMPG is hoping to host anther city-wide conference in 2017, this time on the theme of evangelism.  Based on the verse, “Freely you have received, freely give” it will be a day for leaders and disciples from across our city to be enthused, encouraged and equipped for the the task of telling our story.

A city-wide conference
Freely you have received. Freely give.
